From “Emmylou”, their romantic homage to the classic duets of Johnny Cash & June Carter and Gram Parker & Emmylou Harris to “King of the World”, the album’s clap-happy closer with Conor Oberst aiding on vocals, The Lion’s Roar is some of the catchiest and best folk so far this year. Stockholm-based sisters Klara and Johanna Soderberg first caught my attention on YouTube a while back when their woodsy cover of Fleet Foxes “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song” sent chills down my spine.
Now veterans with extensive worldwide touring, two full-lengths and an EP to their credit, The Lion’s Roar is a gorgeous, confident and surprisingly mature step up for the the sisters Soderberg both in terms of songwriting and production.

This is pure Americana… heartfelt and passionate… straight out of Sweden!!
The echo on ever track totally reminds me of Fleet Foxes. It’s almost over the top, but it works with their vocals. Totally reminds me of some of the early Fleet Foxes cuts.
