I saw more than 35 bands perform over the four days of Sasquatch! 2012, but two of my favorite artists whom I’ve seen many times before really caught me off-guard with their passionate new material and what appears to be a renewed energy and intensity in their performances…
Jack White – Blunderbuss

The solo debut from former White Stripes frontman Jack White is the frontrunner for mainstream album of the year for 2012. Released to nearly unanimously rave reviews from every media outlet, Blunderbuss may be my favorite music that White has put out since 2003′s Elephant. Charming and graceful on the stage, White has become a master of the live musical performance and he owned the crowd Saturday night on the mainstage.
Damien Jurado – Maraqopa
Maraqopa, Damien Jurado’s 11th studio LP, is quite simply a masterpiece. It’s filled with haunting, psych-twinged tension and with aching beauty and over time it’s proving to be my favorite music ever from one my all-time favorite artists. I’ve never seen Jurado as animated and intense as he was on the Sasquatch stage on Monday. This is a world-class songwriter in his prime touring with a phenomenal full band performing at the peak of a long and highly productive career. Go. See. Damien. Jurado. Live. Now.
