Though relatively unknown in the US, Later… with Jools Holland has been a television institution in the UK for over twenty years. The show runs late Friday nights on BBC2 and features several performances from a mix of both new and established musical artists. The host, Jools Holland, is a highly accomplished pianist, composer, author and radio host, but is most commonly recognized in the US as a founding member of the new wave/power pop band Squeeze (“Tempted”, “Black Coffee In Bed”, “Cool for Cats”, “Hourglass”).
I’ve been a huge fan of the show for years, both for the audio quality and for Holland’s selection of musical guests. He always has this great mashup of artists and somehow manages to capture these amazing performances from them consistently. Here’s a few of our favorite performances from years past on Later… from Radiohead, Alabama Shakes, Massive Attack, R.E.M., Sigur Ros and Grimes.
